RTC File Error

Recommended Posts

My wife deleted a program (PowerQuest Drive Image) from her computer. I suspect she just deleted the files manually instead of going through add/remove programs.

So now when she starts a Printshop program a "windows installer" box appears, then a box showing that "drive image is now installing". After that a box show up "RTC File Error". This happens for 3 consecutive times and then the Printshop program opens and runs without a problem.

I have run several repair programs to repair the registry thinking that there are some files remaining from Drive Image. The problem, however, continues.

Any suggestion?

Have you tried START/SEARCH, then type the name of the program after electing to search ALL files including hidden? Then delete everything that you find. Are you then confident about looking in the registry? I have never had any bother doing this as I always EXPORT it first, ready for re-merging if anything goes wrong. Delete any mentions of that program in HKEY_CURRENT_USER, and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, after opening software in both those keys.

That's strange that you had so much trouble with Drive Image, as I have been using it for years and have had no problems.

Before Drive Image 7 I used to use Drive Image 2002.

Still as long as you are using a reliable back-up utility, it doesn't really matter which one you use as long as you are happy with it.

It must be the Norton (Symantec) curse. Anything associated with that company spells disaster for me - even if it was OK before the acquisition so perhaps that's spreading to others :(

Well thankfully the curse hasn't spread to me yet! :D

Actually it did a few years ago with Norton anti-virus so I ditched it and have been happily using McAfee ever since but as this is going OFF topic I will say no more on this subject!
