If I slept with her and was to turn over and catch her back with my knee it would be pure hell. She has a special mattress that inflates and deflates every 20 seconds and special pillows that inflate so that she can sit up in bed. The air pump is very quiet though, you can hardly hear it.The problem with the back is the lower part of the vertebrae, she has three fragmented discs. On and off over the years I have spent anything up to two or three weeks at a time stretched out on the floor. I have been to hospital, chiropractors, physiotherapists, and old Uncle Tom Cobley and all over the years. At times, 'Er indoors has even had to help me on and off the toilet. After a bad spell about four years ago, the doc sent me again to the physio department at the local hospital. A new young physio there gave me a concentrated course of acupuncture and exercises to do. At last, as long as I take reasonable care I don't get any trouble. He worked a miracle. Because of where the problem is, Surgery is out of the question. With it being the smaller part of the vertebrae the surgeons said that it was too close to the spinal cord to operate on as one small slip of the knife could mean she would end up totally paralysed. I think at the moment she is as good as she is going to get. She takes a cocktail of tablets for this that and the other that she has wrong with her and I keep a stock of Morphine in the safe for when her back really gets bad and the normal pain killers don't work too well. At the moment along with all her medication I give her six Tramadol per day which seems to ease the pain, but when these fail it's Morphine to the rescue.
