Scarecrow Man
Kicking off what he called the "live era" of software, Microsoft chairman Bill Gates said on Tuesday in the United States that the company plans to launch new Internet-based complements to its core products.Gates said Microsoft is working on two products, "Windows Live" and "Office Live," that create opportunities for the company to sell online subscriptions and advertising. Both are targeted at smaller businesses and consumers. The products won't replace the company's ubiquitous operating system or productivity suite, and people don't need to have that software loaded to tap into the Web versions. "They are not required to use Windows or Office," Gates said at a press event in San Francisco.Gates said that Windows Live is a set of Internet-based personal services, such as e-mail, blogging and instant messaging. It will be primarily supported by advertising and be separate from the operating system itself. Office Live will come in both ad-based and subscription versions that augment the popular desktop productivity suite.StoryWindows & Office Live Homepage... I don't know what to say... Scarecrow Man
Not exactly... This looks like it could be the beginning of a "Dumb Terminal Internet Version of Windows" but not quite yet. This site is more of an add-on for existing, but not limited to, Windows machines. (Works with Linux? No Firefox support yet...)It is more like a community page. Blogs, e-mail and Instant Messaging.Keep an eye on this site for further development. This is not the last we will hear of "Windows Live", I am sure.
Chris
You might want to put your suit of armor on as soon as you roll out of bed this morning, dear Gemini. There is an all-out battle raging out there, and it may seem like everyone has picked you as their main target. Be careful of escalating the issue even more by becoming defensive about the situation without first understanding the full scope of the matter. It could be that everything is coming to a climax simply because there is one slight misunderstanding.
-pops-
Better than this arty-farty "touching up" of his systems, why doesn't Gates set his priorities into developing software that is infection proof and doesn't have to be patched up every week or so? He should also be more aware that his Office system has some serious competition. Why doesn't he work towards lowering the price?
