AlanHo
Research reveals one Brit Net shopping drunk and naked - maybe more At least one crazed Briton has shopped online while drunk and naked, 'shocking' new statistics reveal. A study into online spending behaviour by customer experience firm Conchango found that seven per cent of Brits know somebody who has shopped on the web for 'items they don't need while intoxicated', website startups.co.uk reports. The report did not clarify whether the seven per cent were referring to seperate debauched individuals or whether it is possible that the respondents to the survey could infact all know the same person.Readers of a delicate disposition may want to stop reading here as the report dishes out even more alarming statistics. It claims that not only are these people (or person) squandering money online when inebriated but 6 per cent of Brits also admit to knowing someone who has, outrageously, indulged in a spot of web surfing in the all together. Just to make that clear that's stark naked, nude, in the buff or however you want to phrase it!So, what does this mean? At least one person is drunk on the Internet, but someone else is in the buff. It could even be the same person. Is Britain spiralling into a state of wantonness and immorality?'These findings throw a new light on Internet spending and pose a number of questions for retailers as they develop new online products and services,' said Paul Dawson, head of customer experience at Conchango.'While it's important that retailers offer a consistent experience across all the channels, they need to bear in mind that many of their customers will behave very differently when in the comfort of their own homes and 'hidden' behind the anonymity afforded by the Internet.'Dawson summarised by saying that what we can all learn from this, particularly retailers, is that web customers (or at least one of them) are hard to predict. The customer experience expert added that retailers must consider what impacts consumers' online shopping decisions and accordingly try to tailor new features to their web sites. Is he suggesting that online retailers should take advantage of people under the influence? Have they found a way to spike your browser? Could the Internet soon be swamped with 24-hour kebab delivery pop-ups and will we soon have the police banging our front door down to breathalyse us, if they suspect we are drunk in charge of a desktop PC?Computer Shopper Nov 2005
Thos
All pretty silly but there is a grain of truth in there. I have a golden rule.....when I have had a drink, even only one, I do not buy anything or do any deals, either on the internet, on the phone or in any other way.As for surfing in the buff, it doesn't appeal to me or anyone else, I suspect.Thos. :)
