Tips on rescuing a Game cube disk

Hi all

My son was given 3 Game cube games by his cousin, and by god they were in a state.

all of them have multiple Scratches on them and were really dirty (i guess this is why he gave them away as they did not work at all)

Well i have done my usual trick in cleaning them with medical alcohol, two of them now work but the 3rd one will not, is there anything else i can do to reduce the scratches ??

I have heard that the old fashioned "Windolene" - the opaque pink stuff works but where can you get it these days? Also read that T-Cut (for polishing scratches out of cars) will do it and Brasso.

There is an old fashioned thing called "Plate Powder" which is mixed with water to clean silver. It's very finely powdered chalk that might do it. Also toothpaste.

I would only try any of those as an absolute last resort.

After reading this link, i decided to use some Displex Display Polish which i have for taking the scratches out of my watch glass (which works very well)

I thought what the heck i have nothing to lose (easy come easy go), the Disk now has some minor scratches on it but the deeper ones are now gone and guess what it now works fine in the game cube.

All i can say is that i am glad that i drummed into my son from day one of him having a game cube the subject of disk care, and all his disks are still in mint condition after a year of use.

Just seen this post, and I'm pleased to see it was sorted. I agree with pops. I clean my (read the family's) scratched CDs with Brasso or toothpaste. It works..!! :blink:

I have often wondered why this is?

I suppose that the cleaning direction is important though as it wouldn't be mentioned all the time.
