On a whim this morning, I thought I would give the VoIP Skype a try out.

I downloaded the software and got to the point of inputting a user name and password. The user name was an extremely unusual one but it was rejected by Skype. Other similar names were suggested but I didn't want them. I put in a new name - it as rejected as before. I did this six times with the same result and each time the name became more and more obscure. On my last attempt I just tapped the keyboard at random and even that was rejected as being already in use.

Skype has now been removed :sad:

Does anyone else use it? Did you have similar registration problems?

I have been using it for around 12 months now, and I would think that as with all the free stuff the easy names are all gone. I set up a Yahoo E mail for my granddaughter the other day and could not find anything near her name.

P.s. andsome didn't you ask about Skype about a year ago, (at least someone did)

rong, the names I chose were far from usual and, as noted, the last was just random key bashing.

Just set up another account no problem, just a name followed by 20

I'm not inspired any longer. Once software starts messing me about, that's the end of it for me.

I might try again in six months time but, I still can't believe what it was telling me. It was just winding me up - and succeeding.

I was browsing around a few old Lounge posts last night and stumbled upon this thread http://forums.neoplanet.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=15010 but I didn't want to reply to it due to the age of the thread i.e. over a year old!

I have recently installed Skype and found it very simple to install and use so I can't undersand why -pops- is having problems?

I find the voice quality better than a normal telephone conversation and I use it quite frequently assuming the other people are actually online.

I signed up a year ago, no problems.

And Friday i bought a telephone number for use on it!

I use Yahoo Messanger which is simular, Talk to my Son in Dubia fro free and save a fortune on telephone costs.

Also use webcam on it so we can see each other.
