trackrat Posted January 2, 2006 Report Share Posted January 2, 2006 Does this help.Make sure A: is the first boot device in cmos. Boot up with a 98 bootdisk. Choose to start with or without cdrom support--at this point it doesn't matter. At the a:\> prompt type fdisk and enter and Y to large disk support, if asked.You can choose option 4 from the menu to view the partition information. Option 3 will allow you to remove any existing partitions. For a fresh installation you'll probably want all the old partitions deleted. When that's done, choose option 1 to create the partition. It'll scan the drive and then ask if you want to allocate all the space to a single partition. For simplicity answer Y. Then it'll do the scan again. When it's done, exit fdisk and reboot again with the bootdisk.If you plan on doing the OS installation then from the menu choose 'cdrom support'. Pay attention to the last few lines that load prior to the final a:\> prompt as that will tell you the cdrom drive letter (some bootdisks temporarily change the letter). Then at the prompt type format c: and enter. When it's done it'll ask about a label. Just hit enter as only a weenie wants to name his hard drive.Then with the 98 cd in the cdrom type X:\setup and enter, where X: is the cdrom drive letter indicated when you booted up. r4may Posted January 2, 2006 Report Share Posted January 2, 2006 Before you exit Fdisk ensure you make the C: Drive/Partition the ACTIVE drive. Reboot to floppy and then format the drives/partions.You should then be able to reboot from floppy with CDRom suppurt and instal the windows 98 from CD.
