USB Connection Problems

Recommended Posts

We visited my daughter over the weekend at the Ohio State University. I purchased a 100gb external HD for her and installed it yesterday via USB 2.0 connection. I transferred all her music and photo programs to it freeing up a lot of space on her main hard drive.

After this was done I tried to download some maintenance programs from my USB flashdrive to her main internal hard drive. However, the computer would not recognize the drive until I unplugged the new external drive.

She called today and said that her wireless card (usb connection) is not recognized any longer. I had her turn off the external hard drive and bingo, the card was recognized.

What could be causing this problem?

I do not believe it has it's own power supply.

No problems with the Western Digital that was bought for me. It plugs into the USB port, and also into a mains adaptor which in turn plugs into the mains. Maybe it should go to a powered USB connection, if there is such an animal.
