deuces wild
We visited my daughter over the weekend at the Ohio State University. I purchased a 100gb external HD for her and installed it yesterday via USB 2.0 connection. I transferred all her music and photo programs to it freeing up a lot of space on her main hard drive. After this was done I tried to download some maintenance programs from my USB flashdrive to her main internal hard drive. However, the computer would not recognize the drive until I unplugged the new external drive. She called today and said that her wireless card (usb connection) is not recognized any longer. I had her turn off the external hard drive and bingo, the card was recognized. What could be causing this problem?
expertec
Lack of power maybe...?Does the external HDD have it's own power supply, or is it powered from the USB?
deuces wild
I do not believe it has it's own power supply.
andsome
I do not believe it has it's own power supply. No problems with the Western Digital that was bought for me. It plugs into the USB port, and also into a mains adaptor which in turn plugs into the mains. Maybe it should go to a powered USB connection, if there is such an animal. Scarecrow Man
My External casing provided me with an external power supply. I'd imagine that a HD cannot get enough power from USB.
