donald Posted March 8, 2006 Report Share Posted March 8, 2006 OK, I've been incredibly stupid. I typed up some minutes of a meeting, saved them on the laptop. Moved them to USB stick (FAT 32 formatted). Went to move files to desktop at work (Windows XP), realised they were in ODT format which Word will not read - so without thinking deleted them from the USB stick. Then realised I had moved them - not copied them - from the laptop!!!! So no files any more either on laptop or USB stick.How can I get them back - if at all? I have tried downloading file restorers for Windows. They find a file with the right name but the content is some text I had deleted last year from a different file.Any ideas before I jump in the river out of shame and emabarassment!Donald Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Belatucadrus Posted March 8, 2006 Report Share Posted March 8, 2006 1) Wear appropriate swimwear.2) Choose site where river egress is easy post immersion event.3) Wait till Summer, the river will be very cold at the moment.What file recovery software did you try, maybe we can come up with an alternative that gives a better result, though the existence of two files with the same name could make this difficult. donald Posted March 8, 2006 Author Report Share Posted March 8, 2006 I've been downloading various file recovery programmes all day - all with same result except for a demo version of RescuePro 3.0. The others all come up with two ODT files with the right file names but not the right content. The one file I'm most interested is the one I've checked and the content is some part of a different file with a different name that I cut out of that file sometime last year.The RescuePro came up with a long list of files with no names, only numbers which looks more promising but the demo version did not allow me to read or save any of files.Donaldps I'm away from tomorrow until the 19th and won't be able to get to the Internet until then so any replies after tonight please do send them and I'll read them on the 19th.pps I'll go shopping for swimwear while I'm away Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
