But these posts are almost hidden, and very few people notice them. So I don't know how useful it is to post there.Then there are Essential Headlines, Essential Software, and Essential Updates - all three containing software update announcements. The latter one with all topics closed.Also, should we differentiate updates to beta software, and "real" (final) software updates / upgrades?Comments? It really needs something like every new post of an update needs to delete the previous ?Otherwise the threads will be huge. I am not even sure if we need these definition updates posted, as they are published regularly; e.g. Spybot Search & Destroy releases their update every Friday afternoon. Also many of these softwares have an auto-update facility, so there is even less need to post the update.What I propose is to keep these separate:Keep the definition updates in the pinned topics in Security ChatPost real software updates in Essential UpdatesUnclear is still where to post the availability of hotfixes.And where do we announce beta releases? If it is a beta for a major version, then I'm sure it goes into Essential Headlines, and follow-up beta releases can be posted in the same topic. However if there is a news article that discusses software, [something new from XX company etc] then post it in here. If the you have come across software then post it in Essential Software.Essential UpdatesTime for a prune of security chat as those updates are now taken care of in Essential Updates. These updates are updates to programs that, errr update frequently. Weather they update on their own or not doesn't mater IMO. Becasue they have to be configured that way and it's always a good idea to check manually now and again. Essential SoftwarePost updates to applications that are not covered by Essential Updates. Why? Well you generally don't have a frequent [daily, weekly] update to, for example Photoshop CS2, Paint.net, Irfanview etc......when the updates are available, bug fixes or a new version all together then post in Essential Software. If it's a brand new piece of software or something you've come across then pop a post in.Beta software should be posted in here as well as it's no different to any other software apart from the fact that's it's beta. Updates to beta software should be made in the same topic. However if there is a brand new version then a new topic should be posted, for example Windows Antispyware BETA 1 to Windows Defender BETA 2. I suggest anyone who posts beta software includes a little note to say that it's beta software. But not many people post about beta software let alone continue to continue updating the topic. I honestly think that big boys and girls are capable of doing this for our own computers.
