-pops- Posted March 30, 2006 Report Share Posted March 30, 2006 I was talking to my son in law (commercial airline captain) about this and he just cannot understand how this could have happened - especially to have landed at a military airbase. Even if the pilot was carrying out a visual approach there would have been plenty of radio contact between the aircraft and the ground control.What were the instruments telling the pilot? Whatever it was, it can't have been the first time the pilot was flying this route, didn't he see anything amiss?What shocks us is that the Airline Pilots Association seem to be on the side of the pilot. What would we be saying now if the military had done what they are supposed to do at the approach of an unidentified aircraft (unidentified it must have been otherwise the ground-air conversations would have aborted the landing).Think before you fly cheapo next time folks! The co-pilot duly obliged and the plane screeched to a halt barely two feet from the end of the runway. Paddy said "That's the shortest runway I have ever seen".
