NEXCOMPAC
Ok, I cant for the life of me find the place in 2003 to include a request for reciept option. i know this doesnt work for all accounts I will send to, but I sure did like using it! Or if there is a 3rd party one you all like as well or better, let me know.
-pops-
Do you mean an email read receipt? If so, it's not in Office 2003 but in Outlook or Outlook Express. The big problem in the read receipt idea is that you need the cooperation of the recipient for it to work properly. Much better is MSGTAG which doesn't rely on your recipient. It is here. I've used it for years.

Scarecrow Man
Thunderbird is excellent.Outlook Express also has a built in read-reciept feature.on this page there is information about Outlook 2003 messaging. It helps with read recipts, and messaging withing Outlook. Near the bottom of the page.
andsome
I go with pops on this one. The recipient of an e-mail cannot decide not to send a receipt, it is automatic as soon as they open an e-mail. MS Tag is one of the best freeware programs available, and takes up practically no room on the computer.
AlanHo
I too use MSGTAG - but the paid for version so I can tag messages to more than one recipient. It is very useful and last week enabled me to dispute a claim by a company I have an issue with that they had not received my original Email. They have now "found" the original having been presented with a copy of my MSGTAG confirmation. However - although I have used the programme for a few months and am chuffed with it - I really don't know how it works. The blurb on the MSGTAG website gives you a rough description but no in-depth details how it can you let you know someone has read your message.Does it assume that when a message is downloaded off the recipients server that it is read at that point - or is it more clever than that.Anyone here with more details - I really am curious. andsome
I believe that it only reports when an e-mail is actually opened. Evidence for this is that my daughter has dozens of e-mail to do with her Yoga classes, and she downloads them EVERY morning, but some don't get opened until much later. She knows that there is nothing urgent in mine so they tend to get left for a while. You will notice that when you get the tag message it gives an actual time of opening. Something must be embedded in the e-mail as it is dispatched.
AlanHo
andsomeYour daughter could download her Emails at say 8.0 am and not read them until noon whilst she is no longer connected to the internet if on dial up.How can you be told she opened them at noon unless there is some method of transmitting a web message to you.I agree that I get notifications popping up from my taskbar and a following Email from MSGTAG giving me the time someone read a message - what I want to know is the mechanics behind the tagging routine and how the necessary data links flow through the internet. Is it possible that the system only works in real time if the sender and recipient are both on broadband - perhaps on dial up the confirmation message has to wait until the next time the reipient goes on line - or am I missing something.I am even more curious now - perhaps that sage pops can educate me. -pops-
I am even more curious now - perhaps that sage pops can educate me.More like thyme & parsley, Alan. :) I haven't a clue how it works but I recently had an MSGTAG receipt timed at 600 days (so many hours etc.) from a business associate who was clearing out the files/system of an ex-member of staff. My daughter has now installed BB by the way. She opens all the e-mails that are potentially from customers, but often has to leave family and friends e-mails until much later in the day, or even next day. I often get opened messages from her timed as opened late in the day, or even the next day, but I know that she always downloads her e-mails as soon as she returns home from taking my granddaughter to school. If you want to send me an e-mail from the forum, I will reply later and let you know in a PM that I have done so. You could then download it but not open it until next day. I will send you a screen shot of my MS-Tag message. Then we will all know one way or the other.

andsome
andsomeHave done as you suggested but am not sure whether an Email sent through the forum will arrive tagged. We will see.The e-mail will almost certainly NOT be tagged. I have now downloaded it and will reply as soon as I close this window. I suggest that you do not open my reply until much later, or even tomorrow. I will then post a screen shot of the tag.I replied as a REPLY to your e-mail. I don't think that this will be tagged. I sent a second one direct at 10-31-43 am. Don't open this one for a while, and we will see.
AlanHo
andsomeYour Emails arrived before I saw this message - hence I opened them straight away.I'm afraid we need to start from scratch.I will Email you direct - note the arrival time and the time when you opened it. Send me a confirmation later and I will do the same. It will be a double check.
