Scarecrow Man Posted April 10, 2006 Report Share Posted April 10, 2006 I've backed up my hard disk with Acronis 9. The image creation was sucessful. I did an "Archive Check" and all checks resulted OK.I went to restore the image, was asked to reboot because the target drive was in use, but when I reboot I got an "archive image is corrupt" error and the image would not restore. I thought it might be because I was imaging from an external USB drive. So I took the drive out of the enclosure, and plugged it directly into the motherboard as a primary slave (master is the target disk) but I am still getting an archive corrupt message.What is going on?I can even "plug" the image in and browse it as if it were installed correctly and every file works. Sorry I can't help with the problem, but thought that I would point out this fact. I know that others on here also use external USB drives, as I took advice first. trackrat Posted April 11, 2006 Report Share Posted April 11, 2006 I had the same problem with an Acronis backup about two months ago and had to restore the files I wanted individually, which was time consuming and a pain to do.Still when I changed my motherboard & processor a few weeks later I had to restore the files individually again, only this time it did not take as long.What really annoyed me the first time was that I always check the disk image after I make one and it said it was OK, till I tried to restore from it. It seems MANY people are having an issue with this...http://www.wilderssecurity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=65 - search for 'image corrupted' and the list goes on... and on...Interesting.. I performed a seach myself and found something about the image not restoring from a sub-folder with more than 8 characters, and space character.I am going to try and move the image to the root of the folder and see if that works. This has served me very well through numerous re-installs and I don't see any reason to change. I purchased it back a while ago because I needed a backup solution and wanted something simple. After hearing such great reviews about it from this forum I thought why not. Now, this is the first time I have tried to restore, although I backup and check archives regularly, and it has failed.I think it's a wonderful program. It's so dead simple to use, my father who is a farmer and barley knows how to turn on the computer could use it, but if it doesn't work, it's no better than an expensive paper weight.I suppose it's time to go back to Norton Ghost.
