-pops-
I was fitted up with the new BT 8Mb service the other day and after giving it a couple of days for it to settle down, I did some speed tests. I'm getting speeds of between 5 & 6 Mbps - which is better than I was told I would get by BT.My Internet has been going at a tremendously fast rate and is noticable all round - especially on large downloads. However, I've tried three or four times to download update to my Nero 6 setup and I'm getting download speeds of between 140KBps and 190KBps (= 1.12Mbps and 1.52Mbps) which is the same, or worse, than it was before I was upgraded. There are no recent updates to Nero 6 to make their server busy so does anyone have the same slowness with that site or know if Nero have a speed cap? I've had a quick look around and can't see anything.
dagwoood
Hi -pops-. It's been a while since I used Nero but I do remember that there servers were very slow when I downloaded updates for it; there weren't any new updates at that time either. You might want to try a download accelerator and see if the Nero site will allow multiple connections.HTH, dagwoood. -pops-
Thanks for that.I'm not too bothered about downloading Nero itself but what did concern me was the thought that I didn't really have this super high speed connection and Nero was showing me the truth of the speed rather than what the BT speed test or ADSL guide was telling me - if you see what I mean :)
CurlyWhirly
I'm getting speeds of between 5 & 6 Mbps - which is better than I was told I would get by BT.I'm glad to hear that as according to BT I may get 3 Mb but more speed would be most welcome. It's been a while since I used Nero but I do remember that there servers were very slow when I downloaded updates for itI can remember this as well.It took me nearly 20 minutes on my (existing) 1 Mb broadband connection.but what did concern me was the thought that I didn't really have this super high speed connection and Nero was showing me the truth of the speed rather than what the BT speed test or ADSL guide was telling me - if you see what I meanUnfortunately even on your fast broadband connection, you are still constrained by server bandwidth limits :(
trackrat
Pops, i have just dowloaded a 37.5gb Nero update and was getting speeds between 450-475Kb/ps, the whole download only took 1 minute 7 seconds.I am on 4mb cable broadband, so yours should be faster than mine. Scarecrow Man
I've downloaded the nero updates on an OC-3 (155 megabits per second) connection, and the average speed was 250kb/s.I've also noticed downloading from nero directly is quite slow. Here's what I downloaded: http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/nero-up.php
