I was fitted up with the new BT 8Mb service the other day and after giving it a couple of days for it to settle down, I did some speed tests. I'm getting speeds of between 5 & 6 Mbps - which is better than I was told I would get by BT.

My Internet has been going at a tremendously fast rate and is noticable all round - especially on large downloads.

However, I've tried three or four times to download update to my Nero 6 setup and I'm getting download speeds of between 140KBps and 190KBps (= 1.12Mbps and 1.52Mbps) which is the same, or worse, than it was before I was upgraded. There are no recent updates to Nero 6 to make their server busy so does anyone have the same slowness with that site or know if Nero have a speed cap? I've had a quick look around and can't see anything.

Hi -pops-. It's been a while since I used Nero but I do remember that there servers were very slow when I downloaded updates for it; there weren't any new updates at that time either.

You might want to try a download accelerator and see if the Nero site will allow multiple connections.

HTH, dagwoood.

Thanks for that.

I'm not too bothered about downloading Nero itself but what did concern me was the thought that I didn't really have this super high speed connection and Nero was showing me the truth of the speed rather than what the BT speed test or ADSL guide was telling me - if you see what I mean :)

I'm glad to hear that as according to BT I may get 3 Mb but more speed would be most welcome.

I can remember this as well.

It took me nearly 20 minutes on my (existing) 1 Mb broadband connection.

Unfortunately even on your fast broadband connection, you are still constrained by server bandwidth limits :(
