catgate
I have just heard a very sad and moving tale, concerning a fellow from Huddersfield. This particular chap was born, due to Thalidomide, without arms, legs, or body. To put it simply he was only a head. He obviously needed constant care and as a result lived all his life in a hospital. His pampering parents visited regularly two or three times a week, since it had been suggested at the outset that his days may be limited. He surprised everybody however, including the hospital staff, by living for over thirty years. One day, just before his twenty first birthday, his father asked him if there was anything special he would like for his twenty first birthday present. He thought only for a moment before replying that he did not particularly care what they got him, as long as it was not "another bloody cap". dadyassa
This as been around for years.I don't think someone who is disabled through Thalidomide will find it very funny.I know a guy that has the after effects of Thalidomide and he first told me the joke years ago. I know sometimes jokes dont seem very appropriate, but you must just carry on and dont take them to heart. You name anything or anybody and there will be a joke about it, thats life ;)
artist
This as been around for years.I don't think someone who is disabled through Thalidomide will find it very funny.I agree. It was around back in the 80's I think.
catgate
I agree. It was around back in the 80's I think.Yes, that was when I heard it. Before PC. In the days when you could have a laugh at things that were funny, without the angst and heartsearching which is demanded today by the dogooders and OBE seekers. There was no need to make mention of the disability being the result of Thalidomide.

I agree also. There was no need to make mention of the disability being the result of Thalidomide.Does this surprise me?If it had been measles there would have been an outcry from Measles Anonymus. If it had been piles the Heamorrhoids Are Us brigade would have been out, and they get right up my ****. Likewise for any possible thing imaginable, without ever giving a thought to the utter and total impossibility of an isolated head surviving for 30 years (from what ever cause).Still, who am I to decide what is objectionable to others. If you don't like it don't read it. Or may be it would be better still if people analysed what it is about a situation or story that makes it funny, rather than trying to defend the indefensible. catgate
There is no need to respond with personal attacks. I thought you were a grown adult. It is amazing how it is possible to see what one wants to see, and not see what one does not want to see.Where in my post is the personal attack(s)? Yes I am a grown adult, and if I were going to make a personal attack upon you I would have more to say on that topic.
