problem with deleting

there is a .exe file on my desktop that i can't delete.

the thing is that i once opened notepad and wrote somthing in it and saved it as .exe

now it is on my desktop and wounld't delete.

the error massage that i get is somthing like this.(which i am very familiar with)

"can not delete p: files is being used by another user or another program.

close the programs that uses this file and try again"

info : the "p:" is there because the name of the file is p (p.exe)

i know what that means and usualy when i get this error, i know what to do but this file is just a file that i myself wrote and saved as .exe accidently and therefor i am very sure that it is not a useful file or a file used by any other user etc.

any ideas

Have you tried restarting in Safe Mode and deleting it from there? If that doesn't work, download this software. Remove on Reboot Shell extension.

I don't know andsome, I doubt it as delete on reboot does the business before windows has loaded. I like unlocker because it tells you what process has grabbed the file you want to kill.

If this is just a thing that's making your desktop untidy but doing nothing else then the safest thing to do with it is hide it inside the Unused Dektop Items folder.

you guys are great. i have been a member of this site of a little while.

i don't ask so many queations but chech around abit for somthing to learn for what other ask and all that. what i see is that you people are so eger to answer that it seems to me that you people are more willing to give the reply then the person who asked the question is to get the reply.

Hey nellie, Should i be concerned that unlocker is asking for internet access through my firewall..???

What would it need access for.?? Have you experianced this..??

Unlockerassistant.exe has modified ( "insert anything here" ) in memory, And loaded unlockerhook.dll wich could be used by keyloggers to steal personal information..

I chose to Allow it in my firewall, But i don't like to allowing things like that if i don't have to.. Should it be allowed.??

I get the same message. Its probably because the program sets a global hook which is basically a file to monitor for processes/threads for certain things. Many bad programs use these hooks to monitor things they shouldn't be such as keyloggers. But in this case it should be safe. Unlocker will also check for updates if you have it enabled.

So what is a global hook.??? I mean, How does it work.? What kinds of things is it monitoring.?

At first i couldn't even launch google desktop, It failed to launch, But i got it again..

First of all, if you aren't happy letting stuff through your firewall then don't let it through. It probably only wants to check for updates anyway.

hhhmm thats wierd, Well everything seems ok now, I just kept getting that warning message for a while, Ok now though..

I just couldn't figure out what unlocker did in my system and what i changed to make my firewall keep asking me all the time, Wierd.!

WOW.? , That stuff in that link is preaty much all greek to me , I tried to follow along though.. I might have learned something but don't keep your fingers crossed.. ;)
