catgate
I have some very old 30s and 40s trad Jazz (ex 78s) saved to cassette tapes. These tape players look like being the next "old technology" to be willfully destroyed in the name of progress (and profit). My only hope seems to be to try to transfer them to CD. Knowing that the contents of CDs can be somewhat ephemeral I have two questions to put to the committee:-1) How am I going to do it ? and 2) Which are the CDs with the best longevity? On the face of it it looks to be -- connect " 'phones" on back of tape player to " mic" on back of computer and simply record, but I imagine the ointment will be awash with those little buzzing black fellows long before I push the button. andsome
We have quite a few old tapes, but this has never concerned me, as I have no intention of doing away with my old tape deck. Let me know how you get on though, I may give it a whirl one day.

I was of a similar opinion until the silly nonsense with the drive belts occured. It seems to be a function of the ripening of the belts with age rather than use.
