geordie_john Posted July 4, 2006 Report Share Posted July 4, 2006 Hello i installed suse 10.1 on a dual boot but i cannot work out how to do anything on Linux and when i went to there forums for help it seemed like they were treating me like an idiot,i will keep the Linux cd`s incase of problems with windows but can anyone tell me how i can now get rid of Linux from my system as every time i turn on the pc it asks me which system i want and i have come to the conclusion that i only want windows,i am a bit of a pc novice so please be gentle.Thank you. trackrat Posted July 4, 2006 Report Share Posted July 4, 2006 Put the first instalation disk in and the restart your machine. select " installation " select " other " the specialized repair allows you to uninstall Suse.You will then need to write a new MBR.Boot from the WinXP CD,(Not a recovery disk) select "recovery console".It will dump you at a command prompt, and you just type "fixmbr" (without the quotation marks) and it will rewrite the WinXP boot sector.Reboot into WinXPSorry your post came just as I was posting, can you borrow a friends XP disk to do the above, or perhaps some one on this forum can tell you how to use a 98se boot disk to rewrite the MBR.Then you need to format the linux partition as NTFS.Right click My computer / left click Manage / left click Disk Management / Right click on the Linux partition and from the drop down box select Format. Seshomaru Samma Posted July 5, 2006 Report Share Posted July 5, 2006 You are quite right about the Suse forum attitute , I dumped it for the exact same reasonMy suggestion is to install Ubuntu Linux instead of SuSENot only Ubuntu is a super friendly OS but the people in Ubuntu's forum are very helpful (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/)Ubuntu can easily see Windows , it will create a boot menu that will allow you to chose which OS to boot from, you will also be able to access Windows files from within Ubuntu.When instaling Ubuntu, the Cd will ask you were you want to install it , it gives you many options. One of them is erasing a Linux partition and instaling Ubuntu instead. Choose that one and you should be fine.If for some reason after instalation Ubuntu's boot menu (called GRUB) doesnt list Windows as an option , let me know and I will tell you how to fix it , it's easy.
