My kit arrived on Thurs, my Run number - 31326, baggage label etc. So as I've knocked up the flag I will be carrying this year I thought I'd post a copy so Craig will know what to look out for this year. He keeps missing it. The flag is courtesy of Rebel = UK again. Thanks Reb. Hope to see you after the finish this year and you bring your mobile with you this time!

The most certain way of spotting Doug is to count the runners as they pass the first camera. When you get to 31,326 that will be him.

Good luck Doug.

I usually count the legs and then divide by two.

Good luck from me too and the flag looks great, Rebel.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi there Reb. Well they are not going up in Newcastle yet. Took herself up to the Hospital at Hunters Moor again today double session, morning and afternoon. So I strolled over to the start area to see if they had started yet and they haven't. The Hospital is just to the left of the start area of the run on the motorway and usually by now the notices have been posted on all the lamp posts saying that by order-in-council certain roads are being closed for the run. There are usually vans dotted around dragging drums of cables for the speakers etc. As herself now has sessions booked at the hospital for 4 days next week I'll be able to see when they start and if they're doing it right.

It is a funny sensation on the morning of the run walking down the slip road onto the motorway!

Had my comeuppance when I got back to the hospital this morning - where I had had a very pleasant stroll over the Town Moor passing comments to all the joggers out piling in the training everyone saying see you Sun week etc. there was a chap in his running gear at the entrance, with a couple of the Physio types. I asked if he was doing the run and he said "no it's too short". "!" I said. he said he only did 100 milers! His wife said that they both did it. Apparently last year he did !00 miles straight off 27 hours while she took 36 hours. That's an awful lot of calories burnt off. I felt very small! My ambition is to do the run in 2 hours - not this year joints wont work fast enough. If you look at my training diary in my signature you will see that I've done 13.15 miles at 10 mins/mile fastest rate = 2 hours 11 mins not allowing for the problem of struggling through the hordes; it really is congested. Part of the slowness has been trying to recover from last year's disasters. I'm still suffering a bit with my right thigh and buttock where herself gave me a helpful lift with the car Christmas before last.

Will keep you up to-date.
