New nonsense

I was astounded by two items that have been in the news this last couple of days. They are unrelated, as far as I can see, other than by their roots.

The first one was report on ceefax of a female pensioner, who had been plagued for months by young hooligans trampling across her garden. She final "snapped" (as the report said) and went outside and swore at a thirteen year old girl. She was taken to court and fined £125 for doing it.

The second one was again on Ceefax and concerned the swearing in (or whatever they do) of the youngest ever JP. A 19 year old student. This displaced the prevous youngest, who was twenty. The report said that the government were trying to get a more modern outlook into the justice system. So watch out for adolescent ministers or even a foetal parliament.

The law is fast becoming a total and complete ass in this country I'm afraid. Another big mistake was giving the vote at 18. many 21 year old don't have enough sense, let alone 18 year olds.

We now have a report in this morning's paper about a 13 year old girl who was taken to the police station by her mother to complain about being the victim of a number of bullying incidents at school. She was cautioned plus having her finger prints and DNA taken because the single parent of one of the bullies had complained that she (the victim) had retaliated and hit her son back.

Hopefully this case will come before the 19 year old magistrate who, being fresh out of nappies, will better empathise with such juvenile behaviour (by the police?)

The trouble with all these sort of reports is that the full story is rarely reported. Pops has a good saying "the newspapers never let the facts get in the way of a good story" (or something like that)

When I was 19 I did not even understand myself, let alone anyone else. I thought I did of course. Now I have gone well passed the three score and ten I am just beginning to understand some of it.

I have to disagree it is not the age it is the sense I mean there are 14 year olds with more sense than alot of 30 year olds. And a girl hit a boy back this is not on the boyu should have got the absolute s*it kicked out of him for even entertaining the thought of bullying a girl.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year- old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student,

only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Panadol, sun lotion or a Band Aid to a student - but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses, and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar can sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason.

He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and I'm A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.
