Recommended Posts

Hi everyone :amazing: .

I have just bought HP Photosmart C4180 All-in-One Printer, and I put the cd that came with it into the drive and... it said it doesn't support this operating system  .

What can I do? I went to the HP website and they don't have any drivers for vista (well none that I could see), please help  .

I went on the Chat with an Online Technician section on the HP website and this is what he had to say:

Broderick: Hello Panarchy

Panarchy: Hi

Broderick: Welcome to HP Total Care for All-in-One Products. My name is Broderick. How may I assist you today?

Panarchy: I use Windows Vista RC2 Build 5744 and I have bought a HP Photosmart C4180 All-in-One Printer today.

Panarchy: I couldn't get any drivers to work on Vista.

Panarchy: Hello? Are you still there?

Broderick: Yes Panarchy

Panarchy: Do you have the answer to my problem?

Broderick: I shall be glad in assisting you with this

Panarchy: Thank you.

Broderick: Let me provide the drivers info here

Panarchy: Okay, thanks.

Broderick: You are welcome

Panarchy: Yes I am! (I like to get the last word! LOL)

Broderick: Here are the steps to install the drivers which are inbuilt:

Broderick: 1. Start, Control Panel, and then select Printer and Faxes.

2. Double-click the Add Printer icon. Click Next.

3. When prompted, choose Local, and then click Next.

4. In the Manufacturers list, choose HP.

5. In the Printer list, choose the HP Deskjet 990C printer, and then

click Next.

6. Choose LPT1 as the port, and then click Next.

7. The printer name should be listed as HP Deskjet 990C Printer.

8. Click No when the "Do you want your Windows based programs to use

this printer as your default printer?" message appears. Then

click Next.

9. Click No when the "Would you like to print a test page

(recommended)" message appears. Then, click Finish.

Panarchy: But the printer I have is a USB printer. Will what you told me to do still work?

Broderick: This will surely work.

Panarchy: Thank you.

Broderick: You are welcome.

Is there any thing else I could help you with?

Panarchy: If I have anymore problems I will talk to you again.

Panarchy: No there isn't. You have been a great help.

Surely this is a case of jumping the gun. I doubt that many vista drivers exist at present. It is not a fully approved system. If you want to use the printer, why not revert back to XP, a system that you know will work with the printer?
