Vegetarians

Oh dear!!! :(

My granddaughters have just come round and announced that they are now vegetarians. Not a problem in itself but, as we do the entertaining for the whole family at Christmas and the fact that we thought we had everything ready for tomorrow, that leaves us, or rather them, with a bit of a problem.

I've stuck 'em in the kitchen at the moment and told them to pick the bits of suet out of the mincemeat for their special mince pies. Hopefully, they'll get bored with this and relent.

My wife is a life long veggie and she thinks Christmas is a great time with an abundance of all the vegetables she can eat, plus lots of sweet things for afterwards. We have now stopped the family entertaining and go to each of our sons in turn, so we don't have the work either.

If your grandchildren are under about 14 they may not be able to resist the turkey. Have a good time, pops.

They are under 14 but, from what they're saying (having given up with de-sueting the mincemeat) they won't be wanting any turkey.

What we've done now is set them the task of making their own nut roast - including shelling the nuts. See how far they get with that.

As I said, the vegetarianism is not a problem per se just the lateness of being told about it. Even their parents didn't know yesterday afternoon.

I'm still a bit doubtful as to how long it will last.

Our oldest granddaughter became a veggie some years ago. The little one would eat a whole animal given half a chance. To me there's a lot of pleasure to be had in eating dead animals, as long as they are cooked first of course.

Well, they've made their nut loaf with cranberries and cheese (which just happened to be vege). It looks quite nice.

We're keeping quiet about the suet in the pudding.

Their parents have gone to a "do" in London so they're staying the night and I'm just trying to get them to go to bed.
