AlanHo
Nice example of freeware - an Icon Editor/Creator which is easy to use.A few months ago I did a screen capture of the Windows Forum logo and imported it into this programme to create a nice desktop icon for this web site. It became the site's favicon when Craig misplaced his original copy.Click here

Coreper
how about trying the best grapics editing program in the world: The GIMP {yes, its better than PS, atleast, a lot people think so > it can do everything PS can, and even more}this will allow you to make 100% custom icons, but this might not work for everyone, because this program might get complicated for someone who is completly new to such programs]

AlanHo
If you have some heavyweight graphics editing - then by all means use the Gimp or Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop. But for icon editing they really are sledgehammers to crack a nut. This is precisely why I recommended this particular Icon Editor and Creator - it is very simple and effective to use and easy to learn. If you want the Rolls Royce in Icon editors - then put your hand deep in your pocket and buy Michaelangelo Icon Maker.

I certainly can do much but it is far from "intuitive" and even after much practice it still leaves me reluctant to totally ditch PSP and/or Photoshop. cozofdeath
I don't have much experience with editing icons but I have used Michaelangelo Icon Maker in the past and thought it was amazing. This was several years ago though.
