Today I ran Spyware Doctor & it found Spector Pro keylogger. After removing this my program no longer works. Don't we have enough with hackers without having to worry about programs from people like Epson. I have no clue why it would be bundled with your software. You should scan the cd or installation files and see if its on there as well. I remember spector as being a rootkit that does many things other than keylogging, like remote monitoring. its basically a rootkit/trojan that wasn't detectable by many scanners when I tryed it. So you may want to run Blacklight from F-Secure. It will detect if there is anything else. Spector software is completely impossible to find for a user because all files are hidden (even temp install files), all files are encrypted, including filenames, and it uses rootkit technology. So its very hard to detect because virus scanners must recognize the encryption pattern instead of one signature, plus they must be able to find rootkits because of how its hidden.btw I only used it to help a parent monitor their daughter. -pops- Posted December 30, 2006 Report Share Posted December 30, 2006 If you are sure that this software came with the Epson, contact them and ask what they are doing.I can see no reason whatsoever why a printer should introduce things like this into a computer.What was the photo print software that you complain about? I have installed and used a number of Epson machines (including several models of the "R" series, although not R360) and never found anything like this. casey Posted December 30, 2006 Author Report Share Posted December 30, 2006 I scanned the CD and nothing shows up there but as soon as I re-install it it comes back in program files. The file in question is PIFT.dll. After I quarantine the file & try to start Photo Print it comes up with DIFT.dll not found. -pops- Posted December 31, 2006 Report Share Posted December 31, 2006 I understand now.Your antispyware is confusing Epson PIF (Print Image Framer) with the .pif file extension which is a virus or other malware.This explains Epson's PIF.
