Irene Posted January 12, 2007 Report Share Posted January 12, 2007 My new pc has the internal hard drive partitioned into C & D.When I checked in the control panel, it showed that C was minimum 512 (same as the ram), but nothing is allocated to D.Programs are installed on C, My Docs etc. on D. I have increased the minimum on C to 766.Now to my questions.... Was I correct to increase C to 766? On this machine I have 1GB RAM and 1.536GB virtual memory. It's normally only on the "C" drive - where all the work is done. You are only using the other drive for storage. (I had just increased my previous one to 1.25gb). I think that Vaio machines will accept additional RAM and another 512MB will do wonders. 1GB would be even better.Check your machine has a slot available and then go to here to find what you need. It has determined that there are 3 slots, only one of which is used (512mb), so I am going to purchase a further 2 x 512mb. I intend to fit them myself (with help from Mike) as I did in my former machine. Fingers crossed all goes as well as the last time! I have ordered directly from Crucial, delivery being about 3 days. BYW, their's was the best price I could find. Also, no delivery charge for the standard delivery lead time of 3-5 days. That is, two 512 sticks (1GB) instead of 1 1GB stick.Of course, as I said above, sometimes having 2x 512 and 1x 1GB works quite well. -pops- Posted January 12, 2007 Report Share Posted January 12, 2007 My suggestion of installing one stick at a time was to reduce confusion in case one stick was faulty - which does happen even in the best conditions.In the computer under discussion, there are three memory slots so I am assuming that they can all be accommodated. (Note that this is not a statement of the obvious, I have a machine that has four slots but only three can be used except under certain setups.) They arrived in the mail delivery this morning.There are now duly fitted and I am up and running again. It was a bit of a tight squeeze inside the box for the fitting, but with a little help from Mike, it went like a dream.
