IE7 tabbed browsing.

I have just discovered a very useful feature in IE7 - that it can open with several tabs - each with a pre-chosen URL

I like to read the BBC news first thing in the morning and then move on to open the Forum and View New Posts, followed by posting my thought for the day. All too often the Forum is as slow as treacle and I have to wait at each stage for the page to load.

Now I have discovered the joys of opening IE7 with multiple tabs - I have set one up for my BBC home page, one for the Forum "View New Posts" and one for a "New Topic" in the lounge.

So now I am happily reading the news whilst the Forum graunches into action and loads the pages I will need.

Just in case you don't know how to organise this - open IE7 and open a tab for each page you wish Explorer to load when it is opened. Now click on the red X to close IE7 and you get a message asking whether you want to close all tabs. Click on "Choose Options" and tick that you want Explorer to open with these tabs next time you use it. It requires a bit of discipline because the setting is retained only for the next time you open IE7 - hence you need to have your chosen tabs open at the time you close IE7 and remember to select the required option.

I believe there may be another way of skinning this cat by setting up a range of tabs as a group which is entered in your favorites. However - I have yet to determine how you select this favorite to open all the tabs at once.

That's a great find Alan. I have been wondering how to do that. I had the MSN tabbed toolbar prior to IE7 and that allowed you to select a range of regular tabs which would open each time you opened explorer. If you do find a way of retaining them I would be delighted! In the meantime I'll have a root around myself for a possible way of doing it.

To save a group of tabs, click the Add to Favorites button , and then click Add Tab Group to Favorites. Give the group a name, select the folder that you want the group to be stored in, and then click Add.

Yes - I am aware of this and alluded to it my original post.

I have set a group as a favorite but cannot see how you get IE7 to open all the tabs at the same time. When you click on the favorite it opens a window listing them and you can then click on one of them. But you have to repeat it to open the other tabs.....or do you...?

Alan this is how I did it.

Open an URL in you browser / click add to favourites / click new folder / give the folder a name / click create / click add / then open another Url / click add to favourites / click add to the folder you created / then the next URL you want.

Then click on favourites find the folder you created and come across to the right and click on the arrow / then that folder will open up with all the tabs.

I mainly use Opera but this is almost identical to the way I did it in Opera.

Yes, I prefer firefox because it prevents antivirus, spyware and other malware efficiently.
