well, if none of those scanners find anything, the trend micro scanner was wrong.

or maybe all your programs removed them already!

but if i were you i would get rid of ALL the programs you installed and check if there are remains, if so > remove them

then i would clean all the cache files [this can be done with CCleaner]

after that you should do some registry scans for errors [occure often after massive software [un-]installation, a very good one is the one from CCleaner, repeat this like 3 or 4 times, so your registry is 100% clean and streamlined

after that i recommend that you do a full system defragmentation, but not the default windows defragmentation [that one is crap]

but you should use the Power Defragmenter, which is a great tool to do this

I'll do that Coreper, thank you. Pity about CCleaner though, I had that installed and it was one of the programmes I was advised to get rid of when the Highjack log was checked. No trouble, I'll put it back again. As for the defragmeter, I can't remember the last time I used the Windows one, I've got Diskeeper which seems to do a good job. The only thing that annoys me with it is that I keep getting emails from them to tell me there is a new version out. That's fine, except that they don't offer a reduced upgrade price.

i have had Diskeeper too, but windows give me messages that Diskeeper was causing problems and should be removed to keep a stable system [ ! ]

i just prefer the Power Defragmenter, because its fast, it shows what it does [sometimes you must be really fast to see what it says ;) ] and it keeps your system stable since it doesnt change any system files.

I've never had any messages about Diskeeper, it just gets on and does it's job as far as I know. I check on it from time to time of course. I'll give Power Defragmenter a try, specially as it's free, should I start having any problems on that side.

If I were you I would stick with Diskeeper. It is a first class program. What's the odds if you do get a message now and then?

the odds may be small, but IF you get it, it isnt good > causes an instable system!

and i prefer a stable system over Diskeeper

Diskeeper has always worked alright for me, no messages of any knid except for nagging emails every so often trying to get me to buy the latest version. What annoys me a little about them is that there is no special upgrade price for those who already have it, everybody pays the full price. Still, suppose they have got to make their money somehow.

I think I'll stick with it for now, as I said before, should it start to give me probelms then I'll change.

Same here.

I've used Diskeeper for over 2 years with no problems.

What annoys me a little about them is that there is no special upgrade price for those who already have it, everybody pays the full price.

I've also noticed this and is the reason why I rarely upgrade.

I'm still running Diskeeper v9 and I didn't bother to upgrade to v10 because I didn't like the look of the new interface apart from having to pay full price for the upgrade!

The only reason that I have Diskeeper 10 is because on a very few computers, a Windows upgrade caused a minor problem with version 7. When I reported it, Diskeeper confirmed the problem and sent me a key to download version 10 free of charge. Good service that. In the unlikely event of a minor problem such as I had, they do their best to help.

I've no idea how good their support is, luckily I've never had to use it but it's good to hear what you said and to know that they are willing to help if required.

I'm quite happy with it, never had any problems with it and it does it's job, what more can I say. I'll stick with it.
