Owl-o Posted January 30, 2007 Report Share Posted January 30, 2007 I searched the froum, but couldn' find anything about it so I guess I'll start a new topicI've been using Windows XP since February 2004 without any reinstalations. The problem is that the C:/Windows directory contains a total 3,80GB (see below)What can I do to reduce that size? I guess some of the data is no longer needed... When I show hidden folders, I notice that almost 1GB is in $NtUninstall* folders (almost 100 of those). Another 2,9GB in System subdirectory.Thanks in advance! If not create one and move all your data files to that. Defragmenting a drive of that size must be very slow. Hope you've got it backed up. Hope you've got it backed up.Yes, my HDD is split into two partitions (75 & 15GB) and I have another 180GB drive. Defragmenting C:\ is a kind of a problem since only Diskeeper is able to deal with it (O&O just doesn't do ANYTHING no matter of the selected method), and it takes lots of time. But I try to do it from time to time. I can't move the data, since all that I have on C:\ are installed aplications.Thanks for those links! I'll check them tommorow and see we'll seeCheers! Same as Scarecrow Man I recommend that you do not go and manually delete things from there.CCleaner has an option to delete all non-essential hotfix uninstallers ($NtUninstall*), but this should really only be done if you are extremely short of disk space. Which you do not seem to be. (It will also prevent you from uninstalling MS installs such as IE7.) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
