doug
I am about to close last year's fund. So far it is a couple of pounds over £4000, still £235 outstanding. Been very hard going getting it in this time for a few reasons, a) it's just a bit later in the year, B) we toddled to Singapore for 3 weeks straight after the run and the nights had drawn in - I don't knock on doors late evening, c) I've been rather poorly. My illness was due to pneumonia which I thought was a heavy cold which I wasn't shaking off. I felt so weary and tired all the time. After the when the doc was checking me out after the second lot of antibiotics she said the lungs were improving. I said it was taking such a long time to shake off a cold. She said I'd been very ill with pneumonia! This shook me and I said that I couldn't have had that because I'd had the pneumonia jab only a couple of years before and it was supposed to give immunity for 10 years. That explains things she said. I had had an atypical pneumonia. ? The first course of antibiotics were of the same type as the jab. An atypical type was what couldn't be treated by the normal antibiotics. It was a good job I was fit she said. Oooh I felt so much better for knowing that.I have already submitted my application for the 2007 run but have been seriously thinking about making it my last, as it would be my 5th run and I thought at 70 it would be time to declare the innings closed. . It really has been a struggle walking the streets, knocking on doors hoping that someone would be home. Still I am slowly improving so I'll see how this years run goes. Still get very tired after each walk I do while herself is having therapy. Might dust of the bike shortly and start working up again. Shades of the year before last. The Hospital Has not finalised on what they want to purchase this year as they are still waiting to move into the brand new special purpose hospital at Walkergate park. They should have moved on Dec 20th last but that's how things seem to go these days with PFI. I have forked out £382 and bought 20 Bladder Stimulators for them to lend out - these can benefit certain people with control problems. The Regional Disability team have in mind an Electrical Unit for attaching to Acupuncture needles - Physios can be cruel at times. This is only about $500. The main Physio team have indicated that they have a big shopping list but I can't get any details yet. I will let you know as soon as I get positive info. Still every month the money sits in the bank it's clicking up another £10 in interest. There are a couple of members who have promised support so chaps if you want posting details PM me and I'll PM the details back.
