Kirbster
Hi all,Currently with Bt Broadband, using Outlook to receive and send messages. All was fine until a few days ago when suddenly I can now only receive emails and not send any. I get Task 'mail.btinternet.com (1) - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC78) : 'Unable to send the message. Please verify the e-mail address in your account properties. The server responded: 530 authentication required - for help go to http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/pop/pop-11.html'I've searched for help on this and contacted BT who through their unhelpful call centre in India told me that it was outlook that was the problem as I'm able to send mail through the web based system. I have checked the email address and the settings in Outlook. I've also uninstalled the whole of Office 2003 and then reinstalled it on more than 1 occasion. But I still have the same problem. This problem exists on all 5 accounts set up on Outlook. Any ideas?
nellie2
I'm not sure how you have your mail set up, but in Outlook, go to Tools > Email Accounts and then in the Email Accounts window put a dot in the View or change existing e-mail accounts radio button, then click next.Highlight one of your accounts and click the change button, then click More settings. In the Internet E-mail Settings window that opens, click on the Outgoing Server tab and put a tick in the My outgoing server requires authentication box, then click ok, next and finish. That should do it B)

It already had my settings emails etc in it, should that have happened? How can I uninstall it, then re-install totally empty?
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Reinstalling Office / Outlook rarely (never) helps with account setup problems. Did you check Nellie2's recommendation about the outgoing server needing authentication? It also needs userid/password specified. If this doesn't help, try deleting one of the accounts, then set it up afresh.

Verify your user name and password in your account properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts.'User name and password are correct. -pops-
According to click here that error code is caused by an invalid password. Are you certain the password is correct? Remember that BT passwords are case sensitive.I could be that the password has become corrupted. You should be able to change the passwords on the "My Account" pages in the BT Yahoo browser. I do understand your frustration. Try looking at these two links in the order shown....http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;309216http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301378/Hope they might have some bearing on your problem. Kirbster
OK,I've logged on to BTYahoo for each of my accounts and have changed their password. I've deleted the mail accounts in Outlook and have reset them up. When I go to test account settings when I haven't ticked the "My Outgoing Server requires authentication. It only fails on sending the test email when it comes up with the following error message."Send test email message:Unable to send test email message. Please verify the E-mail address field."When I tick the My outgoing server requires authentication I get the username and password pop up screen. And after about 50 attempts to either put password in or press enter I give up and cancel. I then get the following message"Send test email message: Outlook could not connect to the outgoing SMTP mail server because the server did not accept your username or password"I know that there's nothing wrong with the passwords as I can receive all mail absoutely fine. Going rapidly bald!!!!!

The port number in the "Incoming Server (POP3)" field should automatically change from 110 to 995. If it doesn't, make sure the port number is set to 995.# Under "Outgoing Server (SMTP)", check the box next to "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL). Enter port number "465" in the "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" field.# If you would like to keep a copy of your email messages on the Yahoo! Mail server, select the "Advanced" tab. Kirbster
Hi Irene... Kirbster needs to make sure his settings are the same as in my screenshot, different email accounts require different settings.. very confusing!! So far I've had them set up both ways. Have also since found out that since I've changed the servers to yahoo.com I don't receive email either. When I change them back to mail.btinternet.com and untick the port settings so that they're on 25 and 110, then I receive but I still can't send anything! Kirbster
Is there any free email programs that I could run and set up to see if it's definitely Outlook that is the problem? Would that help at all?

Kirbster
Yes but it won't let me install it as I already have a more recent version of Outlook. Worth uninstalling outlook and installing express do you think?
Irene
That's probably a question for Nellie, but Outlook is an element of Office.Which version of Office are you using?
