Here it is (sorry it's so long)...A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.The problem seems to be caused by the following file: srescan.sysPAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREAIf this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. -pops- Posted February 13, 2007 Report Share Posted February 13, 2007 Ox00000050 errors are usually due to faulty RAM.Is this the machine you put extra RAM in, Irene? If so, remove it and see if the machine runs OK then. If it is OK, return the RAM to Crucial - they are very helpful and will test/replace the module if it is a fault in their product. -pops- Posted February 13, 2007 Report Share Posted February 13, 2007 Were your previous blue screens Ox00000050 errors?It could be, of course, that the original RAM in the machine is faulty.Anyway, try taking some of the extra memory out as see how that goes.Something I've just remembered - I had RAM errors once where that module was not inserted fully into the slot and after being switched on for a while, the warmth caused it to disconnect, bringing up an error message. I changed a setting which Trackrat advised, so that if/when it happened again, the blue screen wouldn't disappear until I had had time to write the error down. I just checked their website and there are a number of posts referring to the latest 7.something upgrade and the same problem I am having. Haven't done a reinstall yet, because I don't want to compound the problem. Thanks for the pointer. I joined the forum, asking if anyone had found a resolution. The dratted thing 'blued out' on me again this morning. Fortunately, I had read your post and followed the thread, printed off the instructions, when the I had the Blue Kiss of Death!!! I have now completed all of the procedure as advised by JRosenfeld. Hopefully the problem has been excluded. :D Many thanks to all who helped. The drinks are on me today. ALWAYS HAVECan you open ZA, then go to Program Control and check how the McAfee Site Advisor is set? Originally set with four green ticks, I have repeated this each time I get the request. There are now nine green ticked entries. this also occasionally happens with other programs. It happened with IE this morning. I am thinking of giving Commodo another try. Unfortunately Castlecops has been under attack since last week and is completely unavailable, so I couldn't get to the info on how to disable & uninstall srescan.sys. But here are the instructions from the ZoneLabs forum:In normal mode, device manager show hidden devices, plug and play: disable srescanRestart in safe mode, device manager show hidden devices, plug and play: srescan properties, driver tab, change start type to manualRestart in normal mode, device manager show hidden devices, plug and play: uninstall srescanRestart in safe mode, Regedit: In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services, delete srescan, repeat for other control sets. I will try Commodo again when I have time.I have not had any repeat BSOD's since I did the procedure, as advised.Apparently, if I remember correctly, the reason is that the inclusion of the scescan file in the update was for a possible upgrade to the Pay Version. If you recall, people were querying why the download was so much large than before.
