andsome
Why not get rid of it and start again? :D
-pops-
I've had loads of problems with Spybot on one machine such that I thought it was too much trouble to be worth it, especially now that there are so many other good anti-malware programs around.I've stopped using it completely now. Irene
There does not appear to be any residual effects, and SpyBot just went ahead and installed. I know that others on the forum use it, so unless anyone has had any similar experience from which I can draw, I might just remove it to be on the safe side. One does these things with the best intentions.
nellie2
I've done a quick bit of searching about and it seems that this type or error message isn't confined to Spybot, I didn't know what the NTVDM CPU was though. I found this thread where the well informed folks explain it a little bit better than I could. It doesn't solve your problem but it does explain it a bit.......... hopefully
Scarecrow Man
From another forum:In true Microsoft style, this is what MSDN had to say about your problem:Error Message:The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.User Action:Retry the operation. If you still get this message, try to continue. If you are able to continue, you might want to check the results of the running application. Otherwise, terminate the application, then restart it. If you still get this message, contact your technical support group or the supplier of the running application.
Irene
Thank you nellie2 and Scarecrow Man. As I said in previous post. Things appear to be ok for the time being. SpyBot installed itself and I have performed an update process. I also ran a scan and it found 3 items, which I let it deal with. I'll just see what, if anything, happens. Thanks anyway to all who responded. :)
andsome
One other problem that I found with Spybot. I also use Spyware Blaster, and it has a facility which I like. in Tools/Misc IE settings, you can disable the home page setting area in the IE Tools Control Panel, and lock your setting to your selected home page. With Spybot on the machine, for some reason this setting was removed at every upgrade, leaving my Home Page vulnerable to change by a Malware program. This was my main reason for removing it.
