So she will be staying in a few days. She has had a drink and is a bit tearful but is being given morphine, we understand, for the pain.Thos.That's not nice. But modern techniques are usually very effective. When I had mine, during the first year of the war, they discovered peritonitis, and they had to keep me "under" for far longer than was usual. I was "out" for a week after the op. Then when I started to move, the stitches came open, and they had to be redone. It was a seven week job all told, over Christmas 1940. Thos Posted March 19, 2007 Report Share Posted March 19, 2007 Latest Bulletin.After a poor start, Laura improved through the day yesterday and even managed a laugh with her sisters last evening. She is off the morphine now and has been asked to try to move around the ward as much as possible. This morning she is much better and should be able to go home today.No more bulletins unless there is a change when I will pin one to the railings of ChezThos! Thos. The central heating went on the blink last Tuesday, and we have had to manage with an open hearth gas fire, that is really more for show than efficient heating, and have supplemented this with an electric convector heater. The heating engineer ordered a replacement part, but the supplier sent the wrong one, and had to re-order from the boiler manufacturer. Hopefully the part he will be fitting today will be the correct one. This morning, the temperature in the hall and also the bathroom was 6 degrees Celsius, about 46 F. Yesterday and today, I have broken all the rules and regulations and taken the convector heater into the bathroom, to warm thing up a bit while we have a shower, it was of course plugged in outside the bathroom. I have PC Doctor on the computer, and when I booted up this morning, the system temperature instead of showing the degrees, showed L for low. Everest showed the system as 9 degrees Celsius. It has just managed to stagger up to 15 degrees, and the CPU is 27 degrees. Don't we take central heating too much for granted? It's only when it breaks down that we really appreciate it. You would not believe the things that are going wrong at the moment. Last year I had to have a new condenser fitted to the cars air conditioning. I like to run it every few days in line with the manufacturers advice, and found that it had stopped working last week. The engineer found that a stone chip had made a small hole in the new condenser, so that has meant yet another new one has had to be fitted. We have a chalet bungalow, so there is loft space at each end of the side bedroom that I use as an office, as well as one above the main rooms. I put a floor down in the one loft to make storage space. There is a sack of peanuts and another of seed for the birds in there, we found a few days ago that we had an infestation of mice eating into the peanut sack. Hopefully they are now all dead, the poison looks as though it has not been touched for a couple of days. Last week, 'Er indoors broke a tooth filling, the dentist fitted her in for an emergency filling, as the nerve was exposed, she broke it again the same night eating her dinner, and had to have another filling the next day, the day before she went to Jug ears reception in Clarence House. Nice meal on the cards tonight. I am doing grilled lamb steaks with mint sauce. I froze some home grown mint last summer, and it loses nothing by having been frozen, much much better than bottled stuff. She looked very pale and non of her usual bounce. But she is improving and yesterday ws a little better and so I guess that is how it will go.
