Ross Posted March 17, 2007 Report Share Posted March 17, 2007 Hi Everyone I am new to this forum so please be patient with meI have a couple of questions I would like to ask about windows Vista Home Premium.I have just purchased a new HP laptop and it had Norton total internet security 2007 installed on It.I have a subscription for Windows One Care so I uninstalled Norton via add & remove programs, and also down loaded the Norton removal tool and ran that.I then installed One care and every thing is working OK except for a couple of things. If my anti virus is out of date I get the popup window in the task bar saying Norton antivirus needs up dating how can I stop this or make it say that windows one Care needs updating.Also if I go to the security centre and check for other antivirus software installed on this computer it tells me that Norton is installed but out of date can I make it that it only shows Windows One care.Thanks for any helpPSPlease bare in mind that I am a one finger typist so any replies will be a bit slowRoss Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
AlanHo Posted March 18, 2007 Report Share Posted March 18, 2007 getting rid of Norton in XP is notoriously difficult - so I expect it is possibly the same with Vista.I have not used Norton for a few years so cannot help with your problem other than to suggest you do some serious Googling to get answers - or possibly contact HP if other members of the Forum do not yet have a solution for Vista..Out of curiosity I Googled "Remove Norton from Vista" and got a lot of hits. For some people the Norton removal tool seems to have worked but there are a lot of entries made by people with your sort of problem. On one thread a Norton technician stated that the removal tool does not remove the Norton files - but just disables them to speed up a re-install. He suggested that the most reliable course of action would be to reformat your hard drive and reinstall Vista and all your programmes.Sorry you have the problem - hopefully one of our forum experts can suggest something less drastic. andsome Posted March 18, 2007 Report Share Posted March 18, 2007 Try Start/Windows Explorer/Program files. Then delete any references to Symantec and Norton. Then Start/Search. Type Norton and do a search, deleting anything that comes up, then type Symantec and do the same. Before doing this, enable hidden files and folders to be shown. This will still leave registry entries. Do you feel happy editing the registry? If so and you don't know what to do come back here again.
