Flickering

Recommended Posts

I recently got a Home Premium Vista computer. Whenever I bring up something full screen the right side of my screen would occasionally flicker, I found out that it was the sidebar so I got rid of it. Now I am having flickering issues at the bottom half of my screen. It is not the monitor it works fine on other computers. I thought maybe it was the task bar but I hid that and I still have issues. Please help, it gets very irritating.

well, flickering, or graphics flaws can easily be caused by unstable ram aswell, so you might wanna check that aswell, if updating drivers for the graphics card dont work...

Microsoft even has program, that can check your ram for you... or just go to the bias setup, and set it to check the ram (the counting in the start) in case its disabled, this sometimes tells if you have bad "sectors" in the ram...

well, when you switch on your computer, there is a loadscreen containing pure text messages, and at the bottom (usually) there is a tell, off how to enter BIAS SETUP, this is usually done by clicking either DEL or F2.

When you enter the bias setup (might take a few reboots, to figure out when to press the key, and which key it is, but you can usually just start clicking the key from the second you turn on the computer.

When you enter the BIAS, its a tad more tricky, since most manufactures call their menu's something different.

BUT the most encountered is:

RAM check - In this case, ENABLE it.

quick start feature (or similar) - In this case DISABLE it.

boot checks - In this case ENABLE it.

But then again, i would really suggest that you start by updating your driver to the newest.

STEP 1:

This is done by, finding out which graphics card you got, go to the manufactors homepage

not the manufactures of the card, like GIGABYTE, ASUS or like, but the manufactor of the graphics chip, which in most cases are NVIDIA or ATI (sometimes VIA).

and get their latest graphicsdriver for your specific card and platform (windows version).

STEP 2:

Then install all the drivers and tools, and reboot as asked.

STEP 3:

Then check if you still have the failure/flickering.

STEP 4:

In case you do, you might have to update the driver of the motherboard, incase you for instance needs a better driver for your AGP-slot / PCI-E slot(which is used for graphics cards).

Those drivers is found at the actual motherboard manufactors homepage, NOT at the manufactor of the chipsets homepage.

- do step 2 and 3 again -

In case you still have problems, you can look into ram problems, or like - but just post here again, and ill try and help again.

(In case you got a problem finding out which hardware is in your computer, like version of motherboard, graphics card and like, you can check it with most benchmark programs, like sandra from sisoft, or pcmark. OR you can open your computer, and look at the actual hardware for the name/version number.)

Ok well, the only menu that I can select when my computer is starting is through F10 and it doesn't have any of those options, I tried F2 and DEL but neither worked. I also tried to update my graphics card, it tells me I don't have the graphics card and I have the box right next to me so I'm pretty sure I do. It is a 256 MB GDDR3 ATI RADEON X1950PRO card.

well, if it tells that you DONT have the card installed, you should open your computer up (physically) and check if the card is installed in computer, or if its another card thats put there...

In case it is the right card, the problem aint the card, but either the mainboard (hardware) or mainboard driver....

So update the mainboard driver, so the system can find your card, then try and install the driver for the card...

In case that doesn't work either, tell back here what you done

You can get the latest drivers from here.

http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

Make sure you uninstall all the ATI drivers before you install the latest drivers, then run Drive Cleaner 3.3 to eliminate any bits left.

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secu...r-Cleaner.shtml

Then install the latest drivers.
