It seems that he had just entered a small village and had slowed down to 30 MPH. As he rounded a bend, a German tourist was coming from the opposite direction on the wrong side of the road, and too fast. My son braked hard, as did the German, but his car was written off. The police estimated from skid marks that my son had slowed down to about 20 MPH, but that the combined crash speed was about 50MPH. He got away with bruising to the chest from the seat belt, and burns to his arms from the exploding air bag. He is very very lucky. The car write off is a small price to pay for his life. It's amazing that you here of cases where 30MPH kills people.JUST NOTICED. The spell checked had edited out the actual figures in the first post. This is now corrected.
