Nearly a very nasty accident

Our son phoned us from Scotland where he is having a few days away. It seems that he had just entered a small village and had slowed down to 30 MPH. As he rounded a bend, a German tourist was coming from the opposite direction on the wrong side of the road, and too fast. My son braked hard, as did the German, but his car was written off. The police estimated from skid marks that my son had slowed down to about 20 MPH, but that the combined crash speed was about 50MPH. He got away with bruising to the chest from the seat belt, and burns to his arms from the exploding air bag. He is very very lucky. The car write off is a small price to pay for his life.

How very true that is. Life is precious.

I am very happy for you that your son is relatively ok. Was he alone in the car?

What about the other driver and passengers?

He had a friend with him. They had gone away for a few days walking, while Mikes partner was attending a conference. His friend was OK too.

I am pleased it was no worse. It does bring home to us how lives can be changed in a fraction of a second without necessarily any way of avoiding it.

How about the German and his passengers?

Thos.

I'm glad to say that everyone was OK. It's amazing that you here of cases where 30MPH kills people.

JUST NOTICED. The spell checked had edited out the actual figures in the first post. This is now corrected.
