Not sure what you mean by testing RAM, but you can check what you have and/or additional capacity HERE ... it is the Crucial website whare you can let their software scan you pc.

If you want to test your Computers memory "Ram" you can do it with Microsoft > Windows Memory Diagnostic tests

Crucial's system is for Windows, and Mac. Memtest86.com does have a Linux prog., but that will not download for some peculiar reason, whilst Sakura's offering again is M$ only. I shall have to see if Memtest86 has found it's way into any of the Linux repositories.

Download Linux memtest86 from here, use version 3.3.

Download to your desktop, right click open with archive, click on extract,( if your right click menu supports it just click on extract here), click on new desktop icon, click on read me and it will show you haw to install and use it, ignore the read make file.

I had downloaded it, into Downloads, and had opened it with "Software Installer", but just disappeared (not the download, but the result of the installer, if any).

I shall follow your recipe carefully.

The file is a tar.gz file, which must be extracted first (like a Windows zip file).

when you have extracted it follow the read me file.

memtest86+ also has a bootable CD version, which I prefer since there is nothing else loaded in memory when you are testing.
