annoying program named "msn-messenger"

Recommended Posts

Hi people,

I have Office Outlook 2007 and everytime when I try to open a window to type an e-mail or even when I just open Outlook, a very annoying program named "msn-messenger" opens. And that makes me VERY ANGRY the last time :ranting:. I've already tried everything to turn it off or set it so that it doesnt turn on automatically but it still opens when I open Outlook or try to write an email. Can anybody say me how I can delete this sh** or set it so that it wont appear any more??? That would be a big help for me.

Hmm, thats very peculiar....I opened the list of all the services of Windows and there is no entry named "Messenger". I also looked for names like "Windows Messenger" etc. but I found nothing! Then I reinstalled this messenger with the Windows XP Disc...I thought that maybe it will at least appear in the list when I reinstall this Messenger, but there's still nothing to see what has anything to do with this messenger, so I'm not able to turn it off this way... :wacko: What do I have to do now?

Ok I tried the idea of Alan

It seems like I solved the problem. It seems like I did^^! I deleted the whole content of the folder C:\Programs\Messenger\...(I couldn't delete the folder itself)....and now this "msn-messenger" stuff doesnt appear for the first time. I dont really know if it will stay this way in the future or if it wont. If it still keep appearing I write back

What alan2273 told you will only work till you reboot.

This will stop it permanently.

Right click start and choose Explore look for folder Windows, open it click on tools, folder options, view, put the spot in show hidden files, click apply, click ok and look for a folder called INF, open this folder and find SYSOC, double click on it to open in Notepad.

Find the following entry

msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide, 7

Delete the word hide so it reads,

msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf, 7

After you have done this you can uninstall Messenger completely via the control panel & Add or remove Windows components.

Wow...^^the idea of trackrat was very helpful... Now it doesn't appear anymore(even when I restart my PC) The change in the "Sysoc" file made it even possible to delete the whole folder with all its contents in C:\Programs\....FINALLY! Now the problem is solved. Thanky you all very much! :good: :)
