tek Posted May 23, 2007 Report Share Posted May 23, 2007 i was tweaking vista today and all of a sudden, my disk defrag doesnt work. i only disabled services that i read about on the net. did i disable a service that disk defrag needs? if not, why wont it run? yes, i am running it as admin. tek Posted May 23, 2007 Author Report Share Posted May 23, 2007 unfortunately, i dont have a full back up. my external HD is messed up, (only records data until it hits 1.75gigs.) as for diskkeeper, ive never used it. im downloading the trial now. Coreper Posted May 23, 2007 Report Share Posted May 23, 2007 to solve the hd problem, try formatting it and changing the filesystem to NTFS [right click the hd in windows explorer when attached, and select Format]this is how i changed my 500 GB external hd with a FAT32 filesystem to a NTFS filesystemabout the disk defrag:it woudlnt supprise me if the standard windows disk defragmentation is crap, so it isnt a great loss, and i recommend installing a better oneyou can search for these things on Softpediabtw: another way to fix the disk defrag, is to copy the files required by the disk defrag from someone's system where they do work, and copy and overwrite them to your system Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
