M2N32-SLi-DLx, is it faulty?.

I have just tried one of these mobos (to test it out of the case) with an AMD6000, and 1gb Crucial memory and it just starts up then shuts down in 1 second, using the stock heatsink that came with the processor.

I have tried it on a 400w and a 600w psu and same result on both.

Any ideas?.

This is being done out of the case, as I always check them before building them in the case.

There are no external cards, and I have tried using both sticks of ram seperatley,, checked the HSF is properly seated, it looks like taking it to the small computer shop up the road and getting them to test it.

I have an M2N SLI delux mother board and when I first tried it I would turn it on and it would just move the fan then stop, I had it changed and the ram and PSU, it was still the same, in the end an old PSU got it going. I'm not sure what the problem was but it has a 20 pin PSU instead of the 24 it should have. I think it was something to do with the connection but cannot be 100% sure. This may not help you but it's an ASUS board.

Rong, I have an old power supply with a 20 pin connector which I did try and the same result.

I have taken it to my local shop, they said as I am a good customer (although I did not buy this equipment from them) they will test it out for nothing.

Normally they charge £15.

So it will be interesting to see what they come up with, I should know tomorrow.

The board is a DOA so I have requested a RMA, and hopefully the replacement will be OK.

The irony is I have built 5 computers for other people over the last month and no problems (they have all had XP on them not Vista.), but this one was for me. :censored:

That's called sods law. :D

:paperbag1: How daft can you get, I sent it back to Aria and they said there was nothing wrong with it.

So I asked to speak to the technician who tested it.

The first question he asked me was did you connect the ATX12V connector as well as the 24pin one, I said no as the ATX12V connector is for extra power when you are running two graphics cards in SLI mode and as I was just testing it out before I built it in the case and only using one graphics card there was no need for it to be connected.

To which the reply came, if you had read the manual it states that it will not boot without the ATX12V connection being made.

That has taught me a lesson, no matter how much Knowledge you have, it still pays to read all the manual.

So it has cost me £8.25p to send it back and £6.95p for them to send it back to me.

The place I took it to be tested, I cannot blame them as they did not have the manual and probably assumed the same as me that it only needed the 24 pin connector, it was lucky they tested it for free or i would have been £30.00p down instaed of £15.00p. :wub:

I have used Asus boards for ages now and this is the first one that had to have the ATX12V connection made so it can boot.

On all other Asus boards that I have built the ATX12V connection was only for extra power if you were running two graphics cards in SLi mode.

I have just built it and after doing some research, I uninstalled all the Nvidia drivers, then rebuilt it with the new AM2 parts and rebooted it and it said that major hardware changes had been made and I had 3 days to activate it.

As it is an OEM disk I expected trouble, so I went on line to activate it and it said it could not activate on line and to phone the free phone number, The person who answered asked me for the first six digits of the generated code, and said give him a couple of minutes to verify and I will come back to you, after five minutes he came back and gave me the code to activate it.

I was thinking I would have to get another XP disk (or even Vista).

So it is all up and running now and the old parts are going into a computer I am putting together for my nephew who is not very well of.

Assuming it has a RAID controller, and everything else nForce etc...

When the computer turns on and decides to shutoff before the POST, then you got some grounding problems. Make sure the MOBO is grounded, flat on the chassis, and BOTH cards (SLi) are evenly mounted and bridged.

Give this a shot, and you could wear an anti-static wrist band if you really want to. But with the case open, if possible press down on the cards, while pressing the "Power On" button on the tower. If it comes on and doesnt turn off, but then decides to shut off once you release the pressure on the cards. Then you got a socket, or mounting problem. Try purchasing small risers and set the MOBO on them. This'll lift up the mother board a little more... to give you more flexibility on spiffyness or tightness. Make sure everything is screwed evenly, and not to tight.
