Chris Posted July 22, 2007 Report Share Posted July 22, 2007 I don't know if you need all three.But as WU offers them I can only assume that they are treated differently, i.e. If you don't need 2 then it won't offer it as it's covered in 3. But as all 3 are offered...You will know right away if an application needs a certain version; it won't allow the install or won't run once installed. mcb2001 Posted July 23, 2007 Report Share Posted July 23, 2007 Okay, in order to clear this out once and for all:.NET is a framework, where you have an API, which is a set of .dll files, with method that any windows program can call, and therefore use.This is a lot of predone programming, included in Windows, so that you can make programs run faster, more smooth, and have more features in common with Windows, and other programs using the same API.The thing about:.NET 1.1.NET 2.0.NET 3.0is that they have slightly different methods and .dll files attached (therefore the version). But programs depending on for instance 1.1 might not run with 2.0 alone, since a method it uses might have changed functionality or name.So yes, in order for all programs to be able to run, you need all versions of .NET, and not just the newest version.But contrary, if your only running new state of the art software, you might only need 2.0 and 3.0 since some havent changed to 3.0 yet...Hope this clearifies it out...
