My son is leaving for the US Marine Corp. boot camp tomorrow at 6 p.m. He is mentally and physically prepared for this 13 week trial. He signed up for a 5 year active duty commitment. If he earns the right (by passing boot camp) to call himself a US Marine we will most likely never see him again living in our house except for visits.

So..............at 6 p.m. tomorrow we become empty nesters as our daughter is living in Columbus, Ohio at least until September 2008 and will probably get married before then. The chances of her returning to live here a slim.

Add to all of this is the fact that we will celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary in 2 days on Tuesday August 14th, obviously as empty nesters.

So........as of tomorrow 6 p.m. EST we have 3 bedrooms to rent (1 was a guest bedroom) at a reasonable rate if anyone is interested.

The best of luck to him. It would not be for me, I hated National Service, but it's a good thing that we are all different. I wish him well. Congratulations on the anniversary, you are mere beginners yet. :D

Thanks andsome. Saw him off tonight. I was fighting back the tears in the car on the way there. Gave him a big hug goodbye.......he was sweating.........not normal for him as he is in great shape. We won't see him again until at least November 8th. :(

Tricky time, DW.

The hardest bit is over (the "goodbye for a while"). :)

We devote our lives to bringing them up, which creates such a void when they leave the nest.

But now is your time to begin indulging yourselves. Just a little.

Very many congratulations on your wedding aniversary. Time for a real treat. :D

You'll be so proud when he returns in November.

Time always seems like an eternity when we look ahead... so short when we look back.

Thanks to all for the nice messages. He called today from the airport (waiting for his plane ride to Parris Island with a bunch of other recruits). I was out with a customer and my wife was gone also. He left a VM message telling us he loves us and will see us in 13 weeks. We will keep that message to listen to his voice.

Last night when coming back from the house after taking the garbage out (that *was* my sons job) I saw a shooting star. I don't see very many of these and I saw it as a sign of my son telling me he will make it! :)

Irene.....a very inspirational post. Thanks. :flowers:

andsome.thanks for the kind words. :flowers:

Nel, thanks also for the very nice words. My thanks to your friends son.........they are the ones that allow us to sleep peacefully every night. :flowers:

Tankus............thanks for the congrats. BTW: we party all the time.
