Boris
Following on from madboy's original post - who's bitten the bullet then ?If you're on XP you can run AR RAMDisk, but Win95/98 users have to go with the standard offering. Please relate your experiences. mark2
Up and running on the basic 30mb ramdisk, only using it for IE cache, works well and clears up at shut down, better than using an extra proggie for clearing the cache.I think some graphics proggies use a 'scratch disc' space on your hd for storing work in progress, the ram disk would be an ideal place to locate this ????Gets my vote ;)Ps even PCA seems to load a little quicker. :)
popeye
Iv'e got it up and running with 31MB.I also have a few queries.1.It's shown in my control panel only and not in my computer like madboys.2. Temp internet files do not clear when I shut down although they are going to the ram-drive.3. When I first set it all up, there was a conflict in device mananger between the two drivers so I had to uninstal microsofts and only use ar-soft.Have I got this set up right or have I gone wrong along the line?Cheers. David.
Tankus
30Mb up and running (AR on XP) , slight problems on installing it , but now my temp files are in it , it has considerably increased the speed of loading times of new pages..Runs sweet now....!I'm not to sure about what is left in the temp files on shutdown As Ive got an internet tracks eraser which runs on every shutdown......Easiest performance upgrade Ive ever done (free too)Now going to get 2x 512 to increase performance and increase the size of my drive , because Ive sometimes noticed on shutdown, after a long on-line session there can be up to 40 Mb in the temp folder......... (Ive only got 256 DDR which is probably the bare minimum for XP)

Guest ellas
had problems shutting down last night with I/E not ending ,moving the folder back to its original place solved it and deleting the ramdrive,by the way the original folder was hidden and is no longer there so you have recreate a new one, just as well I wrote it down otherwise I would never have remembered where it was B)

Guest ellas
also be warned if you remove this you will have to go into the registry and delete two entries otherwise you keep getting a error in the event viewer, also a inf file to delete. madboy33
well ellas are you going to tell everyone which files to delete then when you uninstall?
Guest ellas
no :D ,of course madboy its because when the program is installed its set to put errors in the event viewer trouble is it does not remove all files when uninstalled, heres the log,The AR Soft RAM Disk Service service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified

Guest spikeychris
RAM-DRIVES are great for files that you know will only be used for one session. Madboys point on Internet use is perfect for RD.RAM-DRIVES are virtual drives that are treated like a drivebut reside in your available RAM. RAM-DRIVES are very fast. If you had a program that couldfit on a ram-drive and then ran it ie: Internet Explorer operations would be veryfast because there is no mechanical operation. The drive is volatile and stability is reliant on the condition of your RAM, Ifyour machine locks up and you need to do the restart/reboot, you will loose everything in the RAM-DRIVE. madboy33
I think what Chris is saying folks is that if you are saying using a word document in a RAM drive is to also back it up on your HDD or it may be lossed if the RAM becomes unstable

Guest ellas
well I got rid of ramdrive on the other machine, downloading a 256mb game demo I got a message the ramdrive was running low on space and must free some space, disc clean came up and cleaned it,finished d/lload and of course it was corrupted,so changed back to normal temp folder on c drive and redownloaded with no probs, wont be using ramdrive again,to be honest this might work on dial up but cant see any difference on 1mb b/band.
