Alan2273 Posted September 20, 2007 Report Share Posted September 20, 2007 I have been with Bkueyonder for 8 years(now Virgin) and have had very few problems in that time.For the amount of programs I used to watch on Sky, I was not bothered about losing those channels.The broadband service is first class and the telephone is OK as well.The big advantage with cable is it does not matter if you are 1000 miles from the exchange, because they use cable you get the full whack and you also (for the time being) get unlimited downloads. They now implement a restriction on all their services. eg.-if you download 5% of your bandwidth between 4pm and midnight (thats 350MB on the M package), they will cut your speeds in half for 4 hours (and again if tripped before midnight). When confronted with this they will DENY any restrictions and want you to ring their help line the next time it happens (premium rate call centre !). HERE is the information from their site (remember they deny this!). BT put in a new length of string up to the village farther away from the exchange than we are, and now they can get BB. But as far as cable goes I reckon Hell will freeze over before we get it.I am really more interested in getting a good reliable "low tech" service. We are still getting delays in email receipt (now down to sometimes a couple of days at worst) and are still unable to contact a couple of AOL users, unless we use Yahoo, also the download speed of downloading up and down like a bride's nightie. I think it has been dreamed up by those who dream up the "explanations" for increases in taxes. It is always portrayed as for our benefit not "theirs". mark2 Posted September 20, 2007 Report Share Posted September 20, 2007 Another satsified Blueyonder (now Virgin) user here, 6yrs or thereabouts, can't remember the last time I had a problem with their service. Never experienced any 'traffic shaping', even when I've been downloading various iso's, but I have seen friends using p2p/bit torrent find their d/load speeds suffering in the 4.00pm to midnight timeband, maybe Virgin are shaping traffic on those ports. andsome Posted September 22, 2007 Report Share Posted September 22, 2007 I have had NTL (now Virgin) telephone service since it was first available round here, and would NEVER go back to a BT line. I have the 4MB BB service from from Virgin and average well over 3.9MB download and just under 400Kb upload. After a lot of problems with the original digital TV boxes I went the Sky TV route for just over a year, then Freeview for a couple of months ago. Then Virgin wrote to me offering a special TV package of over 80 channels for £1 per month, and I was assured that the current digital boxes are now much better.
