Before that a new Toyota Avensis and before that a series of big thirsty yank tanks when I lived in the Middle East.Of all the cars I have owned over the years the present one takes some beating - a 2 litre 170 ps diesel with a fancy auto box and loads of bells and whistles that goes like hell - yet returns an average fuel consumption of 48.3 mpg.
