I cant find Outlook Express

Tried to bring up Outlook Express today - first time for yonks.

Not my default. No Outlook Express. Still on program start menu.

Checked add/remove - not there either. did a Belarc adviser update and not there either. Guess it left home unwanted maybe

Well I am addicted to emoticons on Incredimail.

Someone told I could repair IE and that outlook is part of it. But no IE Repair I can see - I only have IE6 and seven did not like my computer - just didn't assimilate and become part of the rest of it - upset its neighbours so much I rolled back to 6 which is fine but not my default.

Now I am not that worried but do wonder how this happened as to my knowledge I havent done away with it :lol: Any suggestions as where to find it?

Wanted to use it and set up a distribution list so I can email whole bunch of MPs and harass them all at once instead of one by one. :D

Have the instructions on how to see. But maybe should have a look at Mozilla's thunder which I think is as boring/business like as outlook to me so may have distribution list. Anyone know? anything?

I assume you are using Windows XP - in which case outlook Express is part of the operating system and not a seperate programme like Outlook. The two programmes have similar names - but are quite seperate.

I imagine that you may need to carry out a repair of XP for it to surface again.

Yes sorry = Windows XP service pack 2 all updated and just checked that on Belarc and found one I had missed and now reinstalled etc.

Last update was for IE6 last week.

I haven't used outlook for a couple of years or more.

How do I repair XP? It is running perfectly these days. Except for losing outlook. :lol:

Maybe I lost when I went thru the IE7 bit - downloaded it 5 times in all just in case corrupted version but it upset the computer and lost some of the windows bits and pieces like the window that automatically connects to the internet completely but back it came whenever I rolled back to IE6. so left it as only my backup for links that wont open as my default is FF and have another couple of browsers also like MSN and Secure IE.

Someone told me that outlook is part of IE6 Service pack 2 but my computer had it before then as 2003 version.

Outlook is part of Office. Do you have Office installed, if so it will be on the CD. Do an Office repair. :D

However Outlook Express is part of Windows Internet Explorer and is not on the Office CD

Try one of Methods 3 or 4 here :-

Outlook Express is installed through Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs. There is a section (on the left) that says Add/Remove Windows Components; Outlook Express is in there.

Ok this is what I have done so far.

1. Tried Pat's method. Nothing happened and no email program.

2. Dont have Office.

3. Tried the MS repair - method for XP already having SP2 installed.

It went thru its thing and then asked me to put my CD of Service Pack 2 in the slot. Cant do that as haven't got one. See I downloaded it back when and I don't have any CDs for anything with the computer must a square thing which says it is a recovery disc whatever that is, always hoped never have to find out :D

Amount I paid for this at the time $2.500AU should have had some CDs with it - just in case had to reinstall windows.

So guess I'd better just leave it as running fine.

I am on Windows 2000 right now, but tomorrow I will be back on XP, and then I can give you step-by-step instructions how to install OE from Add/Remove Windows Components.

3. Right-click the Ie.inf file, and then click Install.

4. Restart the computer when the file copy process is complete.

If you decide to do it via Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Add/Remove Windows Components, scroll down until you see Outlook Express

Check it, then click 'Next' and 'Finish'.

We had a public holiday here yesterday, because of the emperor's birthday. Today is just a normal working day. But we'll have the whole next week off for New Year's holiday :)

Boris - did try your method but it told me to put in CD with XP on it and I dont have a disc as my computer came loaded and no disc just a discovery floppy.

Pat. I have tried that Add/Remove - will have another go now.

Pat. Tried it again. Nothing. when the wizard is doing its thing it says examining files gathering info etc then I see Internet games and then it is finished. Must have completely lost the program. Not the first thing I have lost - once had 400 photos and they disappeared too. Gremlins I think inhabit my computer now and then.

So next step is to either forget the whole thing or maybe to take the risk and download IE6 with Outlook Express and try that, What do you think.

Let it go as everything else running perfectly and fast too and go find Mozilla thunder bird if it has a distribution list that is. Anyone know off hand?

If you have IE7 installed, then the IE6 download/install will probably not work. If you run with IE6, then it should work OK.

Just checked Thunderbird's Address Book, and it does support distribution lists. I personally like TB very much (but I have never used OE).

Thanks Pat . I have IE6 as IE7 does not assimilate on my computer with the rest of the system. Lose bits of it. Maybe that having lost OE is the cause of IE7 not working properly, as haven't used OE for some years so it may have been missing a while. B)

Thanks for looking up thunder bird, I will download that and use it as FF is good so its fellow program should be.

Ok I downloaded from the link the Boris gave me the IE6 full version but cant get it to install.

When I open it get a notepad with black background and it says

to install y/n and when I type Y or yes it repeats itself. Ad infinitum.

I have previously tried all the other options suggested. :D

O ran live scan today and also a trial of Reg Cure off one of those many microsoft not user friendly to me anyway sites - think I have done the PC cure before looked familiar - said I had 986 faults none of which could be cured unless I bought the package Ha

so did live scan and it fixed something like what cure had said was needing to be fixed. :lol:

Tried again to install. Nothing Nada same old black screen.

Tried again the repair option but said to install sp2 disc which I dont have as downloaded it as usual - why do they always ask for discs when I dont have them bet thousands dont either

Shall I give up?

Also maybe lost OE when I downloaded and tried out IE7 about 5 times to date as it upset a lot of other windows programs every time !!

I thought you went for Thunderbird weeks ago? Give it a try - no hassle, and simple to use. And yes, it has distribution groups.

Yes pat - you have convinced me - I will go for thunderbird and forget I ever heard of Outlook - noticed I had outlook 2 on my programs on start but it too didnt start.

Also my D link is playing up and I have spent all afternoon restoring as lost my sound too, got that back and carried on then kept disconnecting and the usual window that comes up wont work but have to go to connections and click on that and it connects, then drops out so tried configure and got cant find the bitmap. So did another restore and am just back on line and so far not disconnected. Oh dear - should have left it. obviously.
