catgate
I suppose it might be possible if you had some resident malware, but if your box is "clean" it should not happen.I should be inclined to go to :-http://housecall.trendmicro.com/do an on-line scan for nasties and then download :- http://www.spybot-sd-info.com/Download.html and http://filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/then run them. You never know what they might turn up. Dencandy
I've noticed that many websites (such as news services and ISPs) now quickly divert to download advertisements, counters and so on from other websites while we think we are just agreeing to visit the chosen website. Keep am eye on your status bar (the one just above the Tool Bar at the bottom of the screen) and you'll see what I mean. Some web pages seem to come from multiple sites. Maybe this is at least one way websites may appear in your history list even though you didn't "choose" to visit them.
rong
If you use NoScript you can stop the counters and so on loading, you do need to remember to allow the main site though else nothing works
CurlyWhirly
If you use NoScript you can stop the counters and so on loading, you do need to remember to allow the main site though else nothing worksI use that in Firefox and it's a good idea to use it as it stops unknown scripts from running when visiting a webpage. Dencandy
The newest version of Spybot Search & Destroy warns you of "malicious URLs" like some of these advertisements, tracking cookies & so on allowing you the option of blocking them. Well done Spybot!
