I have a feeling it has to do with codecs, I'm not too familiar with how to use them and I get quite lost when dealing with them. Anyhow, I have both .avi and .mpg files which cannot be played in RealPlayer, WindowsMediaPlayer and Dvix player, all because of a missing codec, I believe.If anyone has any suggestions I would be glad to listen. All that is required is to download it and then WMP or whatever player you are using will find the appropriate codec.I am surprised that WMP will not already play .avi and .mpg filesNote that Realpayer will only reliably play its own (.rm) files. Coreper Posted February 23, 2008 Report Share Posted February 23, 2008 i recommend you uninstall ALL codecs you just installed, and also the extra media players you installed recentlythen, do a registry clean with CCleaner [free]after that, you are ready to install the [in my opinion] best media player ever: GOM Playeryou can download it here: http://www.gomlab.com/eng/GMP_download.htmlset the GOM Player as your default player for every media format GOM Player can handle [open GOM Player > Preferences > Others > File Types > Check All]try playing the video files after thatif it still doesnt work: the video files are corruptbtw: what are the sizes of the video files?btw: a great feature from GOM Player i love is: when it misses a codec, it prompts you to download it, and gives a link to the download location! rong Posted February 23, 2008 Report Share Posted February 23, 2008 I just downloaded Gomlab and when I try to use it it prompts me to download something called InterActual, this when loaded wants to send back information about your viewing, or what you play on your computer, which I am not prepared to do, every time I put a DVD in it asks me to download it which is very annoying, I would be happy with Gomelab if you can tell me how to get rid of the prompt for InterActual which I view as spyware. Coreper Posted February 26, 2008 Report Share Posted February 26, 2008 indeedi have never seen anything like that before...i think i might be switching to the VLC player though, because i hate the fact that GOMPlayer cant adjust the volume for ONLY his application: its controls the sound with the Wave Sound Volume [main volume]just one question: can the VLC player also play SWF files? rong Posted February 26, 2008 Report Share Posted February 26, 2008 Scanned my computer, cleaned the registry, searched and found nothing, did a system restore and put it back again, Googled and found out it's on the film DVD so every time I put it in the drive it asked me to download it, something to do with the extras, so alls well.
